4 weeks left. Long weekend too. Can't believe how fast term 3 goes sometimes.
I"ll be looking at the calender to see when our retest day will be, probably on the last week of school.
Our last test is on May 29, it will be a term 3 test. Last physics test!

Physics 11
This week we will be continuing our look at mirrors and reflection. Stay tuned for some handouts and problems. Maybe a little quiz/assignement again this week.

Next week May 22 is movie physics week. Can't wait to see what you've cooked up. Remember you must play the clip in class and it must be appropriate (no swearing, no extreme violence, no nudity or suggestive scenes) imagine my mom is in the room. You must also hand in a neat version of your calculations etc that you've done. ANYONE NOT PREPARED TO DO THEIR PRESENTATION ON THE DAY THAT I CALL YOUR NAME WILL RECEIVE A MARK OF ZERO. There will be no extensions. There will be no excuses. This project was assigned forever ago.

We're going to continue on with lenses and then with multi-lens systems.
The refraction of liquid lab will be due this week.

We're going to keep puttering along in magnetism. We've got a few more situations to work through.

We're going to continue on with our look at the path of light through lenses (chapter 18.2)
We've only got about 6 weeks left in school, we'll dedicate the last week to exam prep, and the week of May 22 will be movie physics
presentations so not a lot of physics left! After we finish lenses we'll look at mirrors too!

IB Physics 11
We are going to continue looking at the physics of refraction over the next week. We'll get our math on then study some lenses. There will be a pretty sweet lab or two coming up. And of course don't forget movie physics.

Physics 12
We're going to keep plugging away with electromagnetism. The solenoid!

This is the last week of class for the IB Physics 12's then it's a few weeks of exams. I don't envy these academic warriors as they go forth into battle. Bit of a debate raging lately over whether or not you get better grades when you take IB vs Provincial level classes. Interesting viewpoints from both sides! I know that you will do more physics in the IB program that's for sure, but its easier to earn good grades too cause you get the benefit of the 7 point IB scale. Provincial kids take less physics so there may be a benefit there too. I do know that the best preparation for university science comes from taking an IB science course irregardless of the mark that you earn. I think you'll get into university either way though, then you can ask the IB kids for help in your first year course.

We'll enjoy our post test movie day. Weds we're going to get out a lens experiment called the optical bench and play around with the converging lens for a bit.

We're going to finish our 2 source interference study, then get into the path of light that the provincial class has been studying.

We're going to map some magnetic fields and begin learning about magnetism.

This is a crazy week! Group IV project on friday, lots of stuff going on, and the first full week of class in a month. Better get some things in gear.

Wind Day! Can you believe it! That's a first for me, thank goodness it wasn't on our test day. As I told some students affected by the power loss Newton studied his physics by candlelight too!

Short week this week but here's what we're going to do.

Physics 11
Weds will be movie day! Then on thursday we're going to do a nice lab about resonance in closed pipes. Then it's march break! We will have completed all the work in chapter 15 by weeks end so will be ready to start chapter 16 when we return. Expect some type of assessment when we return on chapter 15 sound energy!

Physics 12
We are going to continue examining Circuits this week, getting into some mathematical circuits analysis. We will also be putting together some large circuits for future classes to use! I'm still trying to put together our science day at the beach drive. Expect awesomeness!

IB Physics 11
We will continue looking at general wave properties this week. This is Topic 4 in our textbooks. Expect some exciting things when you return like maybe an assignment! or other opportunities like labs!

Well things are busy. I'm busy, you're busy, we're all busy. Sometimes you get so busy you don't get around to updating your blog. It happens. This week I am frantically trying to finish my 40 pounds of marking, and trying to write all my report card comments. So please excuse me if I seem a little short fused at time, or if I walk around muttering to myself. Things are busy.

I don't have much to post today either. I may post more later in the week, but for right now I just want to post the gravitation worksheet because Eamon has been asking me repeatedly for it.

This next session for physics IB is going to be busy. We are going to finish our portfolios before the march break as well as finish the curriculum and get into the options. I am missing labs from some students. It makes it very difficult to hand back or discuss labs when students still need to complete them. I will not chase you, but you if you do not have a completed portfolio I would suggest you switch to provincial physics 12 as you will not receive a credit for IB Physics 12.
