Setting up your mygns.ca email in the Mail application
These instructions are for people who have already set up “Mail” to receive their @glenlyonnorfolk.bc.ca email.
1.Make sure you are connected to an Ethernet cable at school.
2.Start the Mail program by clicking once on the icon in your dock, or finding the application in your Applications folder and double-clicking on it.
3.Go to the Menu bar at the top of the screen and choose Mail > Preferences:

4.In the window that opens up, select the Accounts icon at the top

5.Click on the
button in the bottom left corner to add a new email
account.
Do not click on the
button as that will erase your current account and all the
email on your machine.

Delete what is
auto-entered in the Full Name field and
type your name, eg. John Smith
7.In the Email Address field enter your full email in the form jsmith@mygns.ca
8.In the Password field enter your new password and click on Continue

Make sure the
Account Type selected is POP
10.In the Description field enter your email address e.g. jsmith@mygns.ca
11.In the Incoming Mail Server field enter mail.mygns.ca.
12.In the User Name field type your full email again e.g. jsmith@mygns.ca (the computer will put in your user name but you have to add the @mygns.ca)
13.The Password field is already filled, leave it and click on Continue.

You will get a
Verify Certificate warning as shown above, click on Connect.

16.In the Outgoing Mail Server
window fill in the fields as above:
Description: mail.mygns.ca
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.mygns.ca
Use only this server: checked
Use Authentication: checked
The User Name: and Password: fields will be filled automatically
Click on Continue
17.In the Account Summary window check the box next to Take account online and click on Create.

Your email will now pick up any waiting mail, which should include a test message from Tech Services.If you want to pick up your school mail when your laptop is outside the school system (i.e. at home) please continue to Appendix 1
Note:
·Mail being sent to your @glenlyonnorfolk.bc.ca e-mail is automatically being forwarded to your @mygns.ca email.
·Tech Services has set up an individualised automatic response to anyone who mails to your @glenlyonnorfolk.bc.ca email to advise them of your change of address.
·Those of you using the web access to your @glenlyonnorfolk email as a kind of electronic storage unit with sub folders will need to send those emails to your new @mygns.ca address and pick them up with the mail program, because in 2 months they will all be wiped from the server.
Appendix 1: Picking up school email from home
1.Go to the Menu bar at the top of the screen and choose Mail > Preferences:

In the window that opens up, select the Accounts icon at the top

In the right side of the window click on the drop-down menu next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): and click on Edit Server List.
2. In the next window make sure the mail.mygns.ca server is selected in the top list, and the Advanced tab is selected in the middle.Change the radio button to Use Custom port and type in the number 10025. Click on OK. Click on the red button in the next window to close the Mail Preferences window.Now your machine will pickup mygns.ca email from outside the school network.
