Debate, central co-curricular activity for which GNS has become well known both locally and across the globe is starting up again. Right now, Middle School Students are registering for the upcoming Debate Retreat occuring on the last weekend in September. Ms Cannell, our middle school liason person, has and is taking in forms and cheques from middle school peopel and Coach Baty is doing the same for senior students. The deadline for MS and SS students is fast approaching. The weekend will involve immersion in debate with the guidance of Coach 'Debaty', Asst. Coach Emily Rogers, with the support of key alumni Robert Bailey and Elspeth Easton. It is highly recommended that all debaters, both new and old, take this key opportunity to establish a solid foundation or improve their skills so that the debate year is that much smoother.
This year will involved the usual local and Vancouver tournaments as well as Regionals and Provincials. Members will also be attending the Jr. and Sr. National Debating Championships in Montreal, the Team Canada qualifier in Vancouver and, perhaps, Toronto, and the National Debate Seminar in Saskatoon. In addition, and as a special experience to add depth and breadth to our more involved debaters' skill base, 12 debaters will be traveling to New York and Harvard to compete in the Harvard High School Debating Tournament, the largest (1000 debaters) on the continent.
All GNS middle school and senior school students are invited to become involved NOW!!!!
